OM Pros and Cons

Hi, so alhamdulillah saya dah berjaya melangkah ke alam degree. I'm sorry, I don't have much time to update my thoughts on Semester 5. I will try to find the time to update on that yea. Setelah beberapa minggu masuk dunia degree ni saya tersedar beberapa perkara tentang OM yang mungkin awak teringin nak tahu. Jadi, saya akan mulakan dengan Pros ambil course OM.

PROS:

(disclaimer: bukan bermaksud orang course lain takde advantages ni but I'm just saying this based on our field of study)

1.  Percayalah, you're a computer-literate once you dah habis diploma.
You dah 5 sem belajar typing dan segala macam perkara pasal komputer, siap ambil subject programming dan CSC! Saya rasa sekarang ni serious dah takyah nak fikir bila nak type nak pakai jari apa. Bila buat assignment pun kerja cantik je sebab dah tahu basic margin, the correct use of punctuation and etc. You will realise that you can get a work done faster than those who don't take this course. So clearly, it's an advantage.

2. You will become more confident.
Course kita memang banyak presentations. Boleh dikatakan hampir semua subjects ada presentation dan bukan setakat hantar wakil untuk present macam certain courses yang tak kisah siapa present asal ada wakil. You will know the do's and don'ts when presenting. So bila degree or apa2, tak berapa nak kalut sebab dah biasa kena present. But nervous tu of course, semua orang masih ada perasaan tu.

3. You gain a lot of useful skills.
Disebabkan the previous two points, awak dah jadi seseorang yang berguna bila datang bab skills. Disebabkan I kerja as an admin during sem breaks, I sedar yang skills I belajar time OM lah yang helped me to buat kerja lebih laju dan efficient. Bukan nak bangga ke apa, but bila kerja, colleagues I pun terkejut kenapa I buat kerja cepat sangat siap check balik kerja I takut ada tertinggal ke apa hahah

4. Disebabkan you dah belajar Arab level 1 & 2 during diploma, bila degree awak hanya tinggal ambil arab level 3. Ini adalah advantage buat semua students yang ambil any business course during diploma.

5. Awak dapat diserap terus ke sem 2 untuk degree dalam field of study yang sama. Bermakna, awak dapat skip sem 1 degree. Jimat masa bukan? Ini hanya tertakluk jika awak ambil course berkaitan Office System time degree nanti.

CONS:

1. Masalah bila awak tukar course (under the same faculty).
Awak tak dapat skip sem lain jika awak TUKAR COURSE walaupun course tu under the same faculty. Bermakna, awak tetap kena masuk sem 1. Berlainan jika dibandingkan dengan mereka yang ambil course business selain OM time diploma, mereka dapat masuk terus ke sem 2 bila degree sebab kebanyakan subjek sem 1 & 2 degree yang perlu diambil adalah lebih kurang sama macam subjek yang mereka pernah belajar sepanjang diploma (tertakluk jika awak ambil course business selain OM termasuk banking, transport, marketing etc.) Sorry if this sounds confusing to you.

Later, you will know.

Also, bagi mereka yang tukar course under the same faculty, kita akan ambil principles of law time sem 1. Law ni macam lebih kurang law yang kita dah ambil time sem 5. Unfortunately, bab 1 je yang lebih kurang. Bab lain takde kena mengena dengan law yang kita dah pernah ambil time diploma. Beruntung buat students business yang lain, mereka dah ambil subject ni so takyah ambil dah :)

Buat masa ni, tu je points that I can think of. So yeah, ada untung rugi ambil course ni tapi saya tetap bersyukur pernah ambil course OM because of the useful skills that I got to learn and apply :)

My Thoughts on Diploma

I know some of you, SPM leavers are confused whether to take foundation, form 6 or diploma. I honestly can't help you with that. It's something for you to decide. It sure is tough to make the right decision but following what your heart desires will never fail you. Just believe in everything that you do, then everything else will fall into place. You're too young to let go of the things you have always wanted to do, so get out there and take chances :)

Based on my 3 years of experience taking diploma, well I gotta be honest here, I still don't know what to do with my life. There are times when you feel like you know what you are doing with your life and you have goals that you want to achieve but there are also times when everything just happens to seem dull. That's when you start to contemplate all your life's decisions. But trust me, it's okay to feel this way, you are not alone.

I had a dream of becoming a _____. I thought it was my passion but now you know what, I don't know if this is the thing that I want to do for the rest of my life. But it will all be too late to start over so I guess imma just go with the flow.

Diploma had been great to me. I had my ups and downs. I had moments when I felt like giving up but thinking about the future, I knew I had to shut up and get that diploma. Pheww, here I am, finally done with my diploma. I thought my last day of diploma was gonna be the best day of my life, but seriously, it just felt like any other day haha

Here are the things I love about Diploma:

1) You get to make A LOT of new friends. Well, you can make new friends anywhere but to me, you will have a lot of free time during the first few semesters of diploma. It is always fun to join in clubs and organizations in your university. If you followed my blog, you would know that I joined Taekwondo. I can say that I was quite an active member, but I never joined tournaments 'cause I'm a scaredy squirrel hewhew this is the time when you get to learn the true colours of people. You will find good and bad people and that's how you're going to experience "life".

2) You will have A LOT of free time. If you're a diploma graduate and you don't agree with me on this, well let's just be honest here, you did have A LOT OF FREE TIME.  If you don't feel the same, then that just means you have been procrastinating a lot during your diploma. I have friends from different courses and I quite have a good relationship with most of them. They constantly said they're busy but when I went to visit them at their rooms, guess what they're doing? NOTHING. They either played with their phone, played with makeup or just did a bunch of random stuff. Is that not considered as free time? smh *insert laugh with tears emoji* If you were really busy, you wouldn't even have that much time to play with your phone or makeup. Your further argument is invalid. Well, you will still have your busy week/month lah but those are nothing to be compared to the schedule of those who do foundation/matrix.

3) You get to learn a lot of skills. Diploma is a balance of theories and hands on. You will learn about computer software and other skills that you never thought would be useful for you. I had to do a lot of presentations during my diploma and I gotta say I'm a little more confident to present now. I still get nervous and anxious but at least I know how to prepare better for my presentations now.

4) You can apply for jobs using your diploma certificate. Um how do I say this, I don't think I have any further explanation for this haha well, if you pursue foundation and decide to find a job without a degree later on, you will have to use your spm certificate and not your foundation cert 'cause it would be considered invalid. Need I explain more?

5) You get to learn more about the course. Honestly, idc how long it takes for me to complete my diploma as long as I get to learn things. This is just my pov. If you take foundation or matrix, you're just going to learn the general stuff about the course. Say you're taking foundation in engineering. You know engineering has a lot of types; you have civil engineering, electrical, chemical and so forth. If you take diploma, the course you will be taking is rather 'specific'. So I guess you will get to learn more about the relevant stuff. idk this is just my POV.

6) Last but not least, you get to study better. Go on with foundation, matrix or form 6 if you're hardworking. I guess I love diploma more because it isn't as busy as other pre university courses where you have to struggle more. Sure, we have a lot of assignments too but I guess when you take diploma, you get to better organize your life (?) I can't imagine taking foundation or matrix, my life would be so bloody hectic. It still depends on people though. Only you know what you're capable of doing. Some people think diploma is unbearable while some think it's bearable. Same goes for foundation, matrix and form 6. You just need to figure out what's best for you, yourself.

So yeah, that's just my pov on diploma. I can't tell you much about other pre university courses since I did not get to experience them. So yeah, if you're a muslim, do solat istikharah if you're still hesitant. I think if you take pre university courses, the duration is almost the same if you take diploma. Pre university courses are 1 year + 4 years degree = 5 years. Diploma is 3 years + 2 years degree (you will get pengecualian kredit if you don't change your course) = 5 years. Isn't it the same? haha but if you take a different course for degree then of course your degree is going to take about 3-4 years. *cough cough* (me). So I guess that's it, thank you for taking your time to read my probably not so useful thoughts hahah I really hope you get to decide what's best for you :) Bye xx
